India: a Rising Power was a topic presented by Texas A&M Corpus Christi Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Anantha S. Babbili, B.S., M.A., Ph.D.  Doctor Babbili is a member of our World Affairs Board of Trustees. He is a native of India.

Anantha Babbili joined TAMUCC as the Provost and Chief Academic Officer on October 1, 2007. Anantha brings more than two decades of experience in higher education leadership to this position in Corpus Christi. Prior to coming to TAMUCC he has been the Dean of the College of Mass Communication at Middle Tennessee State University for five years. For 21 years he was a Professor of Journalism, administrator of media studies and internationalization programs at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He is a media commentator and columnist and appeared on CNN and BBC. His op-ed columns have appeared in major newspapers around the world addressing ethical issues in global affairs. Anantha has held visiting professorships in Canada, the UK, India and Slovakia. He was an invited speaker at Oxford University, London School of Economics and other institutions around Europe and Asia. A former journalist in Asia, he was a consultant for the UN, UNESCO and several media organizations on international and intercultural communication. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, and has received his master's degree from the University of Oklahoma. His two undergraduate degrees are in biological sciences and journalism-both from India's Osmania University. He speaks several Asian languages and plays percussion instruments.
